Peaches !Over run with 'em..why must they all ripen at once?

Belle always helps water the plants...

This hummingbird vine is taking over the porch again..Bob will be fussing about it climbing the roof!

My new gazing ball..Bob was working with the tractor taking away weeds, and he hit the old one with the bucket. The ball shattered and I'm still finding slices!

Love these purple/bluish balloon flowers..amid the cone flowers and the pink bee balm clouds..

The wee horses are wishing for a treat..not getting these apples!

My tiny hay bale garden...2 cucumbers,2tomato's a zucchini and a summer squash..I had to do it, even though I don't have the time this year a few plants are a must.

The roses are doing pretty well since the move from the front of the house..Coneflowers ! So sunny and cheerful..

Thats a quick tour of the front yard and the hay bale garden, oh and some of the fruit trees..

Summer dirt brings bounty and baths

I am missing Caine, now that I have recovered from chasing after him. He's such a love, so happy. He would sit with me on the porch for coffee in the morning. Okay, he didn't stay long and I had to chase after him before he got in his pool , or the dirt.. or both in that order! I would at least get him dressed before he started the dirt thing...

Playing in the dirt with his toys and cars... his favorite..such a boy !

I saw this pay phone on our road/fishing trip to Floyd today. I took a picture of it, because I haven't seen one in ages! They are still out there !

Penny had a side swim in the pond...side swim because she can 'touch' bottom on the sides..

Belle prefers the full immersion.

The lily pads are multiplying, but no flowers yet! I think last count was ten pads.. in the picture , middle-ish to the left side near the fluffy green reeds...

The summer is in full swing,its so hot and humid, although it really isn't summer officially..and the veggies are really starting to come fast!

I know what I will be doing in a few short weeks....Canning !!!! Tomatos galore!

We really need to get a freezer soon! Can't wait for the first tomato sandwich! The cucumbers are great, so crisp and fresh....

Heres some pictures from around my yard...it is ever changing with all this rain we have had with periods of sun, cool nights and warm days.


This is the wisteria that I cut last Spring.It was down to the 'bare bones'.
Becky took some slips to plant around her gazebo..

Got Peaches? YUP!Apples, too! Tomatoe buckets are ready..

Wigelia was cut back to stubs 1 year ago..looks like another 'trimming' will be necessary this Spring!

Deodar Cedar ...we could put lights on this the first Christmas, from the ground!

Old railings from the back deck make great feeder hangers for the birds!

This hummingbird vine is going to take over the porch if I'm not careful!

The peonies are showy every year.Sone of these are the 'singles'.

Flag iris is encroaching on the driveway area..

Out back there are yellow flags, and yucca is blooming...the butterfly bushes are gearing up!

The white jasmine has completely covered its tower, and it is hiding the japanese maple that is still reddish colored..The lilacs are past and needed to be trimmed after they bloomed, but I missed it!

Its hard to find the stairs to the small back deck..Harry Lauders walking stick, and these yellow flags have taken it over..the day lillies will follow..

Can you smell this lemon peony?

Springy Things in the Country

This blog is for my Northern family and friends, particularly my sister-in-law, Jan. She appreciates the garden pictures and I know she is awaiting good weather in the Northeast so she can get out in her gardens..So here you go Jan!
The peach trees are budding, and I wonder if this nest will be used again?

If you click on the pictures, they get bigger. There are two bluebirds on the martin house. Last year they were in it and looks like they are back!

This is the asparagus bed. The neighbor came and ran his blades across the grass. Last year the grass was so thick it was hard to find the asparagus shoots! Were hoping this is the cure.

Joey also turned a vegetable garden for us where the chicken coop was. We gave him the chicken coop in exchange for the garden work. The twins are taking care of the chickens and we have already bought a dozen eggs from them!

They were really distraught over the 'mean rooster' that keeps jumping up on the hens and making them screech! Country lesson at hand...

We have been getting river stones to put paths through the flower beds. I love to make a run on my 4-wheeler and stop and get a stone to bring back!( Bob got the big ones with his tractor.)

This old butterfly bush is getting covered over by an ivy. I suppose I should cut it out, but I think its pretty.

I cut the heck out of the wisteria, so I don't know if it will bloom or not, but it had completely taken over everything! Can't kill the stuff, it's like kudzu!

The japanese maple finally has a little breathing room.

The weeping cherry got a bigtime haircut as well, but it has the 'popcorn like' pink flowers on it so I know its ok.

My nephew, his wife and their son Adam (my GRAND-nephew) are coming in a few weeks. I can't wait! I am planning to have John help me put a tire swing up on the big oak near where the wicker swing hangs. The hammock is already stretched between the cedars. Hopefully the creek won't be too cold to go barefoot in and find some craw-dads !
